Teapots and Twirls hosts Benjamin CookMar 16 2013 · Tea dances, Workshops
Back in March 2013, we ran our first ever ‘Teapots and Twirls Play Host’ workshop.
The idea was simple (if not ambitious!): a four-hour Lindy Hop workshop, followed by a four-hour tea dance. We wanted to provide a full and fun day of meeting people and getting to know the community, so Tessa persuaded Jules that they should make lunch for everyone attending, so no one had to go off and forage for food!
Our super-exciting first hostee was Mr Benjamin Cook, a lovely Australian chap who we knew would set the right atmosphere (and enjoy a free lunch!)
Benjamin is based in London, and is a UK Lindy Hop Champion, working for Swing Patrol. Since appearing at Teapots and Twirls in March, he has gone on to win at the International Lindy Hop Championships in Washington DC with his dance partner Ash Cochrane. We’re not saying it’s thanks to us, but it is quite a coincidence, don’t you think? (It’s the raspberry cheesecake brownies, we reckon!)
Thanks to Ben we had a lovely day of wonderful workshops, followed by a tea dance with the Leeds City Stompers. The feedback we got was great, with many folks wanting us to have Ben to visit again – and we’d be delighted! Thanks Ben!
A brilliant day was rounded off by our best ever raffle takings – we raised a whopping £96.80 for Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Hurrah!
