Teapots and Twirls September SwingSep 29 2012 · Tea dances
We didn’t have any concrete plans to do another tea dance after our event in May, but we had such a good time at the first one that we thought it would be daft not to continue the fun and frolics.
This time round we didn’t have the luxury of Yorkshire Tea’s Little Urn though, so we set up our own tea urn in our Kitschen, spent the previous day baking our little socks off and Bob’s yer uncle we had ourselves some refreshments!
Live music was provided by everyone’s favourite jump-jive kings, Louis Louis Louis. These four lovely lads are some of the most talented musicians in Leeds and bring an amazing energy to the dance floor. Their music is a tribute to the three Louis(es) – Louis Armstrong, Louis Prima and Louis Jordan – and includes everything from the swinging ‘I Got A Woman’ to the fast-paced fun of ‘Bear Necessities’ and ‘I Wanna Be Like You’. They certainly wowed our tea-dancers – especially the bit when they all gathered round the same keyboard and hammered away at the same time!
The bill also boasted the very first performance of the High Spirits Choir – a newly formed a capella group, who sang songs in swing-time so the dancers could keep a-dancing.
And our raffle raised £63.50 for this month’s charity, Candlelighters, a children’s cancer charity based at Leeds General Infirmary who support children and their families through this terrible illness.
All in all: an ace day! Take a look at the photos below…
